Now to enjoy their story, you can leave them some love in the comments section at the end of the blog!
Calatrava to most looks like a simple ice cream parlour on Melbourne’s famous Southbank. A busy place of passers by and hungry patrons on a hot summers day. Little do they know it is one of the most precious places to Mikey and Tegan. It was here on their second date they first tasted the sweetness and joy it would bring into their lives. Tegan’s inner dialogue for the most part kept quiet but on this day she sensed this one was special. Ice cream in hand she accidentally blurted out “Yup… I could marry this guy”
After her embarrassed rosy cheeks and his surprise dissipated that moment marked the start of something wonderful. Mikey did not run away, they continued to date and fall in love. Like teenagers they spent sleepless nights thinking of each other, she soon became the stars in his sky. At 11:11 each morning and evening he would send her a text to let her know she was in his thoughts. Some saying a lot and some simple things such as “make a wish”. Tegan dreamt of the future moments in their life together, the soft blurry memory of things to come. She wrote a series of notes for him to read including one for when he was ready to pop the question. It was just over a year this little note saw the light of day, much sooner than they had both expected. One of her requests was do not let me be wearing something super daggy!
He decided the 11th day of the 11th month would be perfect to ask her to be his always, she had no idea. After convincing her to change out of her tracky dacks and grab a jacket, they headed into town where he once again took her out for ice cream. Amongst the squawking seagulls, he reminded her of what happened on their second date and then proposed. She of course said yes 🙂
Planning their future together, they found a way to unite themselves as a family with little Harrison. Their home became the house of the 3 bears, mummy bear, daddy bear & little bear. Harrison looked forward to the day his family got married. The early hours of August 9th 2015 arrived with a soft cloudy winter haze. Two houses were a flurry of activity as preparations went into full swing. She dealt with threaded locks as he put on his patterned socks. Little bear watched mum getting ready and obliged the adults by staying cool, calm and collected.
He thought of his soon to be wife and when he would see her walk towards him for the first time that day. Her nose will crinkle as it always does when she is truly happy; just as he loves it.
At 11:11 he stood at the end of the aisle, awaiting his first glimpse. First sight of Harrison in his little suit his eyes filled, he adored this little human being with every inch of his heart. Ed Sheeran’s “Kiss Me” softly sings “Settle down with me, Cover me up, Cuddle me in. Lie down with me, and hold me in your arms” Tegan steps through the gate and he gasps, covering his mouth to keep his breath in his body as the tears streamed down his round cheeks. In this moment, he knows he is the luckiest man in the world. Nearing him, she reaches out delicately holding his face in her hands, reassuring him that together they are and always will be. What truly matters is when the sun rises each morning she will find him there next to her.
Loving glances and rings exchange amongst family and friends from near and far. The three bears each sign their family certificate making it official before the crowd. They gather for a spot of lunch. The afternoon is spent building lego creations, photo booth shenanigans & dance floor moves-a-plenty. Mikey takes Tegan’s hand before the goodbyes and twirls her across the dance floor as Jon Boden merrily sings, “How long will I love you? As long as there are stars above you. And longer if I can”
The night draws near and once again on the night they wed, they find themselves enjoying one of life’s simple pleasures, an ice cream together at the spot that started it all.
