The Story of Leah, Struan, Nicky & Ocean
Enter into the garden and you could be forgiven for thinking you had stepped into a version of Alice In Wonderland. The bell chime flowers ring out after a little girl’s hand reaches out to push them on her way past while running down the path. The sculpture in the tree could indeed be a version of the cheshire cat. But nothing compares to the creation of the tea party wall that is being built by the hands, hearts and souls of three generations. The sun is shining on this beautiful crisp winter morning spent out under the awning.
You can tell that for Ocean visiting Nanny’s house is a place unlike any other. A wonderful magic exists here that a child can connect with. A safe place to express yourself and allow the imagination to take hold. “It’s is so much fun at Nanny’s! We paint, have tea parties, make mosaics and even saw dinosaur bones at the museum!” This home is warm and rich with so many textures and colours inviting you to take a seat and listen to the stories it has to tell. Today is the story of three generations seamlessly experiencing the joy of each others company. Like a dance Nanny & Mum allow Ocean to bounce from one to the other, leaving her own brand of fairy dust trailing between. Struan meanwhile quietly observes as he glances up from his morning paper then joins in. Ocean’s energy is abundant as she directs us here and there. Teaches those around her that indeed that chicken will only each witchetty grubs and you infact can eat straight from the trees & garden beds. She tricks us into eating the sour ones and giggles that it was a success. With that she is off again to explore another corner of this fantasy playground.
The connection between a grandparent and grandchild is unmistakable. These are the memories that come back to you when you are a grandparent yourself. The warmth of her hug, the smell of her house and how you spent the hours together. Cherished are these times that you lock away on your heart as a child, never to be tainted. Mister+Lady thank you so much for letting us be there to photograph such a wonderful morning spent creating, playing and loving each other. Family, this is what it’s all about…and cups of tea 🙂
