The story of Donna + James
Donna thinks James is a great catch, a strapping young man with perfect neat blonde hair when they met, so convinced infact she tried setting him up with her own friend. A bold move some might say for how you go about wooing your future husband but that pretty much sums up Donna in a nutshell, intimidatingly confident she possesses the ability to talk to anyone, anywhere at anytime, but don’t be fooled. At the heart of this outwardly bubbly soul is a softer side with a caring and helpful nature beyond compare.
Thankfully he wasn’t snapped up before she realised on a night out at the Precinct Hotel that she couldn’t wait to see him. Over an evening of flirting by the bar his faux swedish appeal became too much for one girl to handle, consequently he earnt his new name of “Yames”, one that would stick even up to this day. He pushed all the right buttons for her, she began falling for his beautifully clear eyes and big loud squawks of laughter. Dating began, it didn’t take James very long to work out that she was special, he saw a future by her side. There was a reason she was surrounded by so many friends, she was such a great conversationalist and so incredibly easy to get along with. With one exception. Discussing the play of a football match had been off the cards due to her complete disinterest up to that point. It took him by surprise however that over time she cared about his passions too so much that she would attend games and become fluent in “AFL”. These little things meant the world to him, preparing half time snacks, making sure he was warm and looking after himself told him she was on his team every step of the way.
Scheduling precious days off together is quite the task when one is a powerhouse Real Estate Agent the other a Police Officer, but when the stars aligned they found themselves enjoying the annual easter trips to Moulamein chatting around the fire, spending afternoons sitting by the rivers edge fishing and not so surprisingly to anyone who knows James staying amazingly clean. He was caught, hook, line and sinker. Together they toured the world embracing other cultures and pushing themselves outside of their comfort zones.
A protector, even by trade, James always made sure to check in with Donna on her girls night out, making sure she was safe and would be the first to offer a ride when she needed a white knight to come to the rescue. Donna admires the way he interacts with people and how well mannered he is, something her 93 year old Nan enjoys most as they swap stories. Given that one of the most important things to Donna is her family and friends, this was a big tick, they are her happy place. He made her so proud when he graduated from the police academy, she knows his incredible patience and ever calm demeanour is such an asset to everyone he encounters. They soon realised deepening their family connections is something they both hold dear so what better way to celebrate than to join the two families together.
Donna, a super sleuth, is very hard to keep a secret from but somehow James managed to successfully organise a surprise rendezvous. Karen (her boss) was a more than willing accomplice and did her bit by delivering Donna unknowingly to Alowyn Gardens in the Yarra Valley. She had pretended they were inspecting and listing a house. After being literally led down a garden path up to a gate she found herself alone, she would have to tackle this one solo. Never in her dreams would she think she would find James before her waiting with a rose in one hand, ring in the other and grin from ear to ear. In the silent moment when the world slows and her heart starts beating out of her chest he proceeded to get down on bended knee. Rip! the undeniable sound of tearing cloth broke the illusion as his pants split. Always one to stay calm under pressure he proposed. No wardrobe malfunction would taint this perfect moment, it was a yes and she was in awe.
On a scorching new years eve surrounded by all those they love James and Donna had the party of the year. A perfect setting nestled in the courtyard under festoon lights at the Euroa Butter Factory. Party hats bobbed through the landscape as hilarious speeches, laughter and pumping tunes rang out into the evening. At 11:59 the familiar sound of the countdown kicked in.. 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 Happy New Year! For the most moments of their first new year together as husband and wife they embraced and shared a lingering lock of the lips.
The years ahead are full the everyday moments, James amusing her no end with his insanely terrible dance moves around the house, Donna wowing him with some home cooked delights and her incredible ability to be the most un-coordinated person he has every met! Each stumble and random item dropped only makes him love the quirky character she is more. They continue to fall in love with every second that passes, they vow to never change each other and accept they can handle anything life throws their way as long as they are together. As best friends and lovers they will walk through life hand in hand, passing through many new front doors no doubt but always ready for what the next project will hold.
