Rob + Sim met through mutual friends with the first sighting being at the Swan Hotel in Richmond ( aka The dirty bird) Can’t say they were convinced! Not sure why Sim wasn’t, Rob was rocking a pretty mean Mohawk! Luckily mates talked them into another meeting, thankfully the first impressions have changed! He knew she was “The One” when he found out she owned her own swag.
Sim likes most things about Rob. He’s is just so darn likeable. He is kind, funny, calm and relaxed.
One of Rob’s other endearing features? Rob can untangle her necklace – it’s something she really hasn’t ever mastered!
Rob loves Sim’s big smile, that she is funny, caring and organised. That she is like a patio heater is also a huge bonus as she keeps him warm in bed on cold nights. Despite being a woman nearly half his weight and physical size, she still takes up over half the bed! That not anything really new though as when sitting on the couch (they have a massive couch that would sit 6 people comfortably) watching tv, Sim will come and sit down so close that she is basically on top of him. He sees a couple of rug rats hopefully in the future. Sim will probably say, win tattslotto, but he keeps reminding her that she needs to buy a ticket. Family and Friends mean everything to them, they would be lost without them.
Rob’s take on the proposal
“We had organised a trip (well, I organised the trip) to Fiji in December 2015, and thought the time had come to do something about it so planned to propose while there. Wasn’t completely all planned out but worked on a game plan when we arrived. This took a few days but I decided the island bar at sunset would be a good spot and thought at the end of the trip would be good because Sim can get weirded out by these kind of things. So the plan was, have dinner at the resort restaurant nice and early. We generally smash down our food in seconds. Then we would go for a drink at the island bar and I would pop the question. Simple. The day arrived, everything was going sweet but a little later than I was thinking. At this stage, I was sweating a little more than normal. Anyway all good, still plenty of time. BUT I hadn’t planned on the resort putting on a native show during dinner. Sim not normally one for that kind of stuff, decided this was the night she wanted to watch. Then they asked for crowd interaction including dancing. Sweating a little more now. Sim never one for a dance, decided tonight was the night for a dance and sing along, (Must have been some good cocktails that day). So anyway, the sun had well and truly set by the end of the show. By this stage, my shirt was fairly soaked in sweat but the singing and dancing was covering it up I think. By this stage Sim was exhausted from all her dancing and was thinking bed time was on the cards but I convinced her to go for a drink at the island bar. We ordered a couple of drinks and sat on the lounge overlooking the water and at this stage I think I was wetter than the ocean in front of us. I smashed my cocktailed. Chewed every bit of ice in the glass and probably ate the straw too. So I ordered another one which happened to be last drinks at the bar. When I came back to the lounge, Sim was laying down almost asleep. Eventually I got her to sit up and I popped the question. It took a bit for it to sink in but she said yes. We went back to our room and celebrated with two wine glasses filled with electrolytes as the bar was closed and we didn’t have any alcohol in our room.”
We both wanted a casual relaxed place to get married. We didn’t want it to be all about the dress or the decorations. We wanted it to be about the party. It was important that we could go and socialise and have fun with everyone.
“Rob suits me. He makes me a better person. He calms me down and makes me laugh and tries to make me not take life to seriously. I stress about a lot of stuff but when I’m with him it makes me feel so much better about everything. He’s just great.”
“We are so happy we could share the day with so many of our amazing friends, we love love hanging out with them. Our close friends are all so different but so special to us for varied reasons”
Some of his traits are very much opposite to hers but she likes it that way. He is the king to her yang.
He has often said that he has no regrets. He does what he wants to do and has so many good ideas about what to do to push her out of my comfort zone. He takes risks which sometimes she struggles with but she loves that he can make the big decisions with her.
Sim never wanted to get married. Ever. But something changed that she couldn’t put her finger on and just like that she wanted to be married to Rob. Lucky she did. It was such a cracker of a day.
You are both so incredibly down to earth and an utter delight. Wishing you every happiness in the world and can’t wait to see where life takes you next.
